English

26 08 2008

I never liked English.  It seemed a totally worthless class to me.  Why would I care why someone wrote a book?  What do all these themes really mean?  Do they even matter?  My greatest wish has always been for one of these so-called ‘acclaimed’ and ‘amazing’ authors (I will never know why John Steinbeck is considered great… horrible writing) to come up to an English teacher and say, “You really think all that’s in my book?  I was just bored and wrote a story.”

But this year is different.  Sure it has only been two days, but I love my English class.  So far our days have been read, talk, write, listen to music, talk, write, read, write, talk, more music, more writing.  It’s really laid back, I love to read, write and listen to music and the teacher is amazing.  He’s quite a personality and definitely loves what he does, which really makes a lot of difference.  I’m sure there will be more serious moments throughout the year and some more structured essays, but I really like English.  I will never know why outgoing Seniors urged me to avoid this class at all costs.  I’m stubborn.

Batman – The Killing Joke

17 08 2008

So, after I saw The Dark Knight, I browsed the web and learned about two comic books that the Production crew gave Heath Ledger so he could study the Joker.  One, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, I have yet to find.  The other, Batman: The Killing Joke, I was able to find at a local comic book store.

Now, that is one great comic book.

Really.  It is.  Probably the greatest piece of work involving the Joker and Batman.  Now, I haven’t read massive numbers of Batman comics, but I have read a few and I still love the old Animated Series (on in 18 minutes, by the way) and this is by far the most insane I’ve seen the Joker.

And the most insane I’ve seen Batman.

I also was lucky enough to get the recolored version, this time colored by the original artist, Bolland, instead of some other guy.  It looked good.

So, in the end, I really liked it.  To any Batm

Mah Little Brother

14 08 2008

I’ve totally twisted my little brother.  For some reason, he looks up to me.

MUHAHAHA!!!
Anyway, in his questionable pursuit to be like me, he’s started up his own blog and started playing with Photoshop.

Much like I.

So, you should check out his blog, here.  Ignore the misspellings and highly opinionated posts.  That’s him, and you tend to pick up quite a few strong opinions in this house.  And statements that half the house doesn’t realize are only jokes…  :)   I’ll show him eventually how to upload and post his Photoshop stuff, so keep checking back to see how he improves.

:)

Olympics – Men’s Soccer – US v. Netherlands

10 08 2008

Wow, this was a great game.  I made sure to get up early to watch it live and I wasn’t disappointed.  I think the US has a decent chance to medal in this tournament.  Adu finally stepped up and stopped being a simple publicity stunt and performed well while the rest of the team seemed to be significantly better.

The free kick goal… tragic.  But what can you do, the wall was supposed to jump.

A tie 2 – 2 with the Netherlands is a great sign for the US.  Now we just have to wait and see how they perform against Nigeria missing Adu and Bradley.  I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Wallpapers

So I got bored these last couple of days and fiddled around in Photoshop. Now, none of these are anything special, just the results of some good tutorials and me screwing around. Nonetheless, I like them and wanted to share. :)

Let me know what you think of them and feel free to use them, just please don’t claim you made them. I don’t like watermarks but I will plaster a HUGE one on there if I catch rippers.

Oh yeah, all these are 1440 x 900 px.  It’s my screen resolution so if you stick it on a non-widescreen display, you’ll definitely get some distortion.  If you really, really like one, lemme know and I will gladly make a resized version for you.

Good night!
