The Dark Knight… revisited

30 07 2008

So I just saw The Dark Knight.

Again.

And guess what? It didn’t change. It’s still amazing.
But now that I had the plot down, I could look at all the little things. Camera angles, costumes, tiny jokes, cinematic flair…

And that just cemented The Dark Knight in my list of greatest movies. Ever.

I mean, there are a lot of things in this movie that add up to an amazing experience. Not the least of which is the music. Hans Zimmer is definitely one of my favorite movie composers. And then the interrogation scene, that has some nice touches to it.

And they made the Joker seem so insane, so well.

So, yeah, still a great movie. If you haven’t seen it, you need to. If you don’t like comic book movies, still go. It’s definitely worth it. Not only is it an amazing Batman flick, but it delves into the basic idea of good and evil and that everyone can do either. It’s just great.

Well, that’s all for now.

Buenas noches.

Don’t tell me they thought they could win…

So, early estimates are out.  “The Dark Knight” has taken in an estimated $155.34 million and set the box office record previously held by Spider-Man 3.

Now.  If I had a movie that was set to come out July 18, I would have said “What are you thinking?”, promptly refused and, if necessary, forced the company to push back my release date.  Why?  There was no way in the world anything was going to beat “The Dark Knight”!  NO WAY!  It would be nearly impossible to get a decent opening weekend or even for people to know about your movie (How many of you know what else came out this weekend?) with a juggernaut like “The Dark Knight”.

And now, I have proof of my reasoning.  One of the two other movies to debut, “Mamma Mia!” (Ew…) grossed $27.6 million.  And was in second place. A $130 million gap?  Yeah.  Great planning.

The other movie to debut, “Space Chimps” debuted at seventh.  Seventh!  Usually animated movies like that do well, but due to scheduling, this one tanked.  Again, masterful planning.

On a completely unrelated note, don’t neglect your pool.  Don’t. Once the water gets green enough, no amount of chemicals can save it (well, you can, but it’s hard and long…) and your dad will come home and say, “Let’s just drain it”, which leads to a slimy, algae coated empty pool which needs to be scrubbed and moved to re-level the ground (by adding bricks below the feet) and lots of lava rocks that surround the pool that need to be cleaned and really muddy feet.

Trust me.

Listening to: Fighting siblings.  Over a flyswatter, I think.

The Dark Knight

Whoa.

This movie was outstanding.  The Joker is absolutely insane, Ledger took the character in an entirely different direction than previous movies have and it was perfect.  Bale is an incredible Batman, managing to play ruthless vigilante, clueless billionaire and tortured mind all at the same time.  The Joker’s scheme is suitably twisted, evil and outright insane.  If you don’t like Batman, you still have to see this.  It was an outright amazing movie.

Time for bed.
